Gregory Ain Modernique Home In Mar Vista
This Ain’s home is in one of the cities most desirable HPOZ’s (Historic Preservation Overlay Zone). This track was designed by Gregory Ain in collaboration with Joseph Johnson and Alfred Day. Ain was a significant "second generation" modernist architect. He was influenced by the first generation of California Modernists like Richard Neutra and Rudolph Schindler. The original design which included original kitchen cabinets and the iconic sliding room divider is still present. Although the home was expanded, the windows and architecture blend effortlessly with the original and intact structure. The current owner is a designer and worked closely with her architect to achieve a continuity of space true to the original design. The spacious spa-like bathroom with glass Italian tile allows for function and form. An abundance of skylights makes this home have a bright gallery feeling. The yard is spacious enough for a pool and very private. Some deferred maintenance will need to be addressed and the property is being sold as-is.
